Be careful. I down loaded a trial version of "Corel Painter Essentials 4" from the Corel website to try it out -- and I liked it. So I went to Amazon to order a CD version of "Corel Painter Essentials 4" - same box picture, same name, same description. However what Amazon shipped me was "Corel Painterphoto Essentials 4" -- slightly different box picture, slightly different name, and with much fewer features.. This is not the first time Amazon has pulled this slight-of-hand trick. The product shipped is vastly INFERIOR to what I tried out and what is described on the Amazon web page.... don't buy it......

I've used previous versions of Painter, long ago. When my kiddo became interested in doing more complex drawings than KidPix would support I immediately thought of Painter Essentials. Amazon delivered the package quickly, and I've spent the past two mornings working with Corel support trying to get the program to run. I've also spent the past two mornings, while on hold, reading many comments online (the painter factory, etc ) about people recently having troubles with Painter 11 and Painter Essentials 4 running - and stopping running if it had been previously running. The program displays a its splash screen and then disappears. From comparing the un-installation instructions, which I've done 10 times or more, to the files installed on the computers hard disk I can see that some of the files which are supposed to be there are not. Support has no explanation for this discrepancy, but has said 'it shouldn't matter.' as a software developer I find this a curious state of affairs. I'll be contacting Amazon for a refund.

What a great program! I am not an artist, but just a person who likes to doodle and have fun with artsy things. This program let's you look like an artist by allowing you to take a photo from your collection on your computer and bring it over to Painter to duplicate like a painting. You get tracing paper where you can trace over your photo and fill it in with color from all kinds of medium like paint, chalk, pencil etc, and it comes out looking like a painting. I use a Wacom Bamboo Fun tablet with this program that I purchased separately, but found out later that this program comes with the Bamboo Fun tablet as a package - which is a better bargain. I would highly recommend this program for anyone wanting to have fun drawing or learning how to draw. It comes with tutorials that are excellent to get you started.
